Kompasu Typhoon hits South Korea and caused three deaths:
Kompasu Typhoon hit South Korea Thursday, killing three people in what was called the strongest storm to hit Seoul in the past 15 years.
Strong wind gusts downed trees, power transmission cables and lights, leaving more than 60,000 homes without power and forcing airports to cancel or delay dozens of international flights, reported the National Agency
for Emergency Management.
Also the service on two subway lines in Seoul and five railway routes was suspended, according to authorities.
A 80 year old man died after being beaten by a roof slab and another 37 died on the way to work in the fall of a tree, the agency said. A man was electrocuted while inspecting a transformer. Four people were injured by
broken glass.
The storm caused damage of more than $ 8.3 million in a stadium in the city of Incheon.
Kompasu , the Japanese word for “compass”, landed on the island of Ganghwa, 70 kilometers (40 miles) west of Seoul on Thursday morning, officials said.
The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a typhoon warning for the province of Gangwon and said the storm is on the northeast of Seoul to North Korea.
