Sony launches electronic reader with touch screen:

Sony Corp. announced Wednesday the launch of the Sony Reader electronic reader Pocket Edition, with new touch-screen return for a price increase of $ 29. The new feature represents a bet the company that consumers are willing to pay more for the possibility of changing their e-books page by sliding your finger on the screen.

The tactics of Sony Corp., to increase the price, is striking in the midst of a market that struggles by consumers, with major rivals like Amazon.com Inc. and Barnes & Noble Inc. racing to the extent that lower their prices while offering new features.

Sony is selling the new device at $ 179, 40 more than the reader Kindle from Amazon cheaper. However, even with the increased price of $ 29, the reader is still $ 20 cheaper than its price last year. The new hand held reader uses an infrared sensor to detect finger slides or tap of a stylus included with the reader, thus eliminating the need for a special coating that reduces the clarity of the screen.

This type of coating on the screen has been used in the current readers and Daily Touch Edition Edition from Sony. In addition to its ability to touch, the new Pocket is an electronic display high contrast, like the Kindle, shows 16 shades of gray, compared with the previous eight shades.

It is also generally smaller and has fewer buttons than the previous model, but still has a screen measuring five inches in May (12.7 centimeters) diagonally. It comes with 2GB of memory to store books, about four times
the storage capacity of the current model Pocket.
